KUALA LUMPUR, June 1 — The refurbishment carried out by Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB)  at the National Sports Complex has paid dividends, after KL Sports City and the Bukit Jalil National Stadium won international accolades recently.

The newly named KL Sports City won the Exterior Lighting Design Award at the Asia Pacific Property Awards 2018-2019 held in Bangkok, while the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, which is located within KL Sports City, was named 2018 Stadium of The Year at the World Stadium Congress Awards in Amsterdam.

The success of KL Sports City was meaningful as it had beaten three other finalists from France, namely U-Arena Stadium, Stade de France and New Bordeaux Stadium.

MRCB and Populous worked together as contractor and architect on the shared vision for the rejuvenation of the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, and the wider KL Sports City.

In redesigning the sports complex, which included four stadiums, focus was given on providing functional excellence of international standing by incorporating modern and innovative architecture with elements of sustainability.

The project had received several significant accolades previously, such as the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) 5 Star SHASSIC Award and the Gold Award at the 13th MOSHPA Excellence Awards for OSHE Management in Engineering and Construction.

KL Sports City was also one of 15 projects shortlisted as a finalist out of 924 entries for the 2017 World Architecture Festival Awards in Berlin.
