KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 — DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang today called for the salaries and remuneration figures of government-linked company (GLC) heads to be made publicly available.

His remarks come in the wake of Transport Minister Anthony Loke’s revelation that Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) executive chairman Gen (R) Tan Sri Abdullah Ahmad’s monthly salary is RM85,000.

"Malaysians are entitled to know how many of the heads of the tens of thousands of GLCs in the country are paid millionaire or near-millionaire salaries,” Lim said in a statement.

Of Malaysia’s GLCs, he questioned how many of their heads are political appointees by the previous Barisan Nasional government, and the exact number of companies on the federal and state level.

"How many of these political appointees have resigned since the historic watershed development on May 9, 2018 which saw the first peaceful and democratic transition of power at the federal level in the nation’s history,

"Is there anyone in Malaysia who can furnish the answers, and whether the tens of thousands of GLCs in the country should continue or should there be structural and institutional reforms to do away with these GLCs?” he asked.

Yesterday, during a press conference, Loke also said Abdullah’s monthly salary comes from the money paid by flight passengers, and that the figure is four times the amount earned by the prime minister.

He added that the government will soon review the salaries of all statutory bodies and GLC chairmen, per instructions from Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
