KOTA BARU, May 30 — There may be many other types of hijabwear and trends, but the bawal headscarf remains a popular choice for many women during Hari Raya Aidilfitri which falls next month.

A visit to several popular shopping areas here found that many hijabwear traders and shoppers were confident that the bawal headscarf which was popular in the 90s, was still in demand now.

Some of the places where the bawal headscarf can easily be found are Pasar Siti Khadijah, Pasar Buluh Kubu, Pasar Malam Wakaf Che Yeh, Bazar Tok Guru, and even in many boutiques in the state.

Boutique owner Rabiatu Hasmak Ghani said sales of bawal headscarves had increased during Ramadan as shoppers prepare for Aidilfitri.

"The sale of bawal headscarves can go up to tens of thousands of ringgit a day, as it is still the choice of women today,” she told Bernama here.

A keen wearer of bawal headscarf Noor Sofea Qistina Abdul Rahman, 27, said it was a versatile piece of cloth which could be shaped in many ways the wearer wants. — Bernama
