PETALING JAYA, May 22 ― New Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commision (MACC) Chief Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull said today he is determined to finish the probe into alleged transferring of millions into Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s personal account from SRC International in 2015.
Shukri said despite going through hardships, which included death threats to him and his family, he is willing to continue the investigation for the sake of the country.
"I came back to finish my unfinished task. I am not happy to take the job as I went through a very scary experience as a retire but I do so for my country,’’ he said at a press conference at MACC headquarters in Putrajaya today.
In 2015, Shukri explained that the-then MACC Chief Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed had ordered him to open an investigation into the alleged RM 2.6 billion that was passed into Najib's personal account.
However, Shukri explained he had asked his former boss of the possible consequences of their course of actions then.
"At that time, it is either this man (Najib) get out of office, or the both of us will be out of office. However Tan Sri Abu (Kassim) said no problem, we do it for the country,” Said Shukri.
However, Najib had removed former Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail in July 2015, supposedly on the day Abu Kassim was supposed to indict the former prime minister.
Gani's removal also came after the sacking of then Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
Both men had also raised questions on the irregularities surrounding 1Malaysia Development Berhad.
Following the removal of these men, and Abu Kassim stepping down as MACC Chief Commissioner in June 2016, Shukri subsequently opted to take an early retirement in July 2016.
