SINGAPORE, May 21 — Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) seized 6,000 cartons of contraband cigarettes from a Malaysia-registered prime mover at Tuas checkpoint on May 18.

In a statement today, ICA said its officers detected anomalies in the scanned images of the consignment and detained the truck driven by a 50-year-old Malaysian man for inspection. 

During the inspection about 4.15pm, the officers discovered ‘duty-unpaid’ cigarettes concealed amongst a consignment of printer parts and roller scanners.

The unpaid total duty and goods and services tax (GST) amounted to about S$512,400 (S$1=RM2.95) and S$37,556 respectively, ICA said.

It said the driver and prime mover were handed over to Singapore Customs for further investigation. — Bernama
