SEPANG, May 18 — The resounding success of double leg amputee Azrulkhan Hasrullah in scaling the Everest Base Camp last Tuesday proves that disabled persons are also capable of taking on challenges as others.

Azrulkhan, who is fondly known as Adam, successfully reached the Everest Base Camp which is located 5,350m above sea level at 12.30pm local time (2.45pm Malaysian time) by using only his hands.

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival at the KL International Airport here tonight, Adam said he was grateful to be able to accomplish the world's first of its kind mission.

"At the moment there is no other climbers who have reached the Everest Base Camp by using only hands and my team members have also contributed to my success,” he said.

Adam, 26, started his climbing expedition from Lukhla, Kathmandu, Nepal on May 1.

The expedition which was also made possible with the help of the Seven Continents Exploration Club was led by Aliff Abdullah as the head for medical team, expedition manager, Irwan Yusof and Adam’s coach, Ardi Dullam.

Also, on hand to welcome Adam was Muhamad Muqharabbin Mokhtarrudin or Qobin, as the expedition sponsor.

Adam hoped that his success could help raise the spirit of other disabled persons as well as help prove that this group was also capable of achieving success and contributing to the country. — Bernama
