PUTRAJAYA, May 16 — Investigations into Tan Sri Irwan Serigar Abdullah’s role in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) corruption scandal will be done according to procedure, said the prime minister today.

Irwan was abruptly transferred out as Treasury secretary-general on Monday and placed under the Public Services Department for the remaining duration of his contract, which was also shortened to June 1.

As the head of the Treasury, he was also chairman or director of several government-linked firms including 1MDB.

"We are doing investigations... certain steps have to be taken to facilitate investigations,” Dr Mahathir told the press at the Perdana Leadership Foundation here.

Dr Mahathir met with Irwan Serigar and other secretaries-general of federal ministries on Monday.

The prime minister has ordered fresh investigations into 1MDB, which was the brainchild of former PM Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Yesterday, the Auditor-General declassified its 1MDB audit report that had been kept an official secret despite the tabling of the Public Accounts Committee report on the firm.

Najib and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, have been barred from leaving the country on suspicion of crimes here, as have several senior government officials past and present.
