KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 — PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is officially released from imprisonment today.

A smiling Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim dressed in a sharp dark suit and tie waved to journalists and supporters who rushed to surround him as he walked out of the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital here at 11.20am and into a waiting black SUV, complete with police outriders and prison officials.

"Yes he has officially been freed,” PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil told reporters.

Anwar is expected to meet with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V at Istana Negara shortly, together with his wife and PKR president as well as deputy prime minister-designate Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

Anwar will then meet the media again at 4pm for a official press conference and Terawih prayers at his home in Segambut, followed by a gathering at Padang Timur opposite Amcorp Mall in Petaling Jaya, Selangor at 10pm today.
