Malaysia condemns bomb attacks in Surabaya

KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 — The Malaysian government strongly condemns the suicide bomb attacks in Surabaya involving three churches, an apartment and a checkpoint at the entrance of a police headquarters which have claimed the lives of 16 people.

The Foreign Ministry in a statement also confirmed that so far, there were no Malaysian casualties in the bombings and the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta was in constant contact with the Indonesian authorities to monitor recent updates.

"The Malaysian government also conveyed heartfelt condolences to the Indonesian Government and the families of the victims. We hope those injured will recover soon,” said the ministry here today.

Malaysians in Indonesia, especially Surabaya, have been advised to exercise caution and abide by directives issued by the local authorities.
