KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 — The Election Commission (EC) today revised upwards the final GE14 voter turnout to 82.32 per cent from the 76 per cent it had previously announced on May 9.

In a press statement, EC chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah also said the EC had carried out its responsibilities fairly during GE14.

"The transition of power was conducted peacefully and orderly with the establishment of a new government, PKR, which has received the people’s mandate.

"This shows that the principle of democracy is mature and preserved in this country,” Mohd Hashim said.

"Despite accusations, the EC maintains that it is an independent body and ensures that democracy is preserved,” he added.

He also congratulated Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir, all the state governments that had been elected and thanked all parties that contributed to the transparent and smooth elections.
