KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 — Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today said that the Yang di-pertuan Agong has ‘indicated’ his consent to immediately pardon jailed former de facto Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"We have made a promise in our manifesto that within the first 10 days we will achieve, implement 10 of the major conditions, that we want to. Among these of course is the abolishing of GST.

"But even before that, in the course of our discussion, our four-members discussion with the Agong yesterday, the Agong has indicated  to one of us, actually to (Lim) Guan Eng, that he is willing to pardon Datuk Seri Anwar immediately,” Dr Mahathir said, adding that it will be a full pardon.

Dr Mahathir said that the PH leaders will now initiate the legal process to secure Anwar’s release.

"It is going to be a full pardon, which of course means that he should be released immediately when he is pardoned.

"After that, he is free to participate fully in politics,” he added.

Dr Mahathir, however, said that the process to reinstate Anwar will take some time, as he would first need to be an MP.

"Whether he will immediately join the Cabinet or not will be decided when the time comes,” he said, when asked if there is a chance for him and Anwar to lead the government together, as they previously did.
