KANGAR, May 11 — Perlis Mufti Associate Prof Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin advised the public to accept the results of the 14th General Election with an open heart and reunite as responsible citizens by putting aside their political differences.

"Those who were defeated should not dwell in sadness, likewise, those who won should not bask too much in their glory. Everything happens for a reason.

"The winning party has a heavy task ahead. Upholding the trust of the people is a daunting task and every appointed leader should carry out their responsibilities with honesty and trustworthiness, free from corruption,” he said during the Friday sermon in conjunction with the fifth "Perkampungan Sunnah” programme at Masjid Alwi here today.

The three-day programme, themed ‘Purification according to Sunnah’, which started from today was also graced by the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who is also the president of the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs).

Twenty-seven guest speakers will present talks in the programme which included participation from Muslims in South-east Asian countries such as Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and Brunei. — AFP
