IPOH, May 10 — Tebing Tinggi assemblyman Abdul Aziz Bari refused to be drawn into speculation he would be the new Perak menteri besar after winning the seat on Wednesday.

Speaking at a media conference held at the Ipoh Timur DAP operation centre here today, Aziz said the purpose of him calling for a press conference was to clear up confusion over constitutional matters that arose following an earlier press conference by Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

He merely laughed it off when newsmen asked if him winning Tebing Tinggi has set the path clear for him to be the menteri besar.

"That thing is different. Nothing to do with speculation.”

He also refused to comment on Perak having a hung assembly despite being a constitutional law expert.

"That is not about the constitution. It is pure politics. Even if I give my views it will be pointless. Let us wait.”

Following the 14th general election, Perak Pakatan Harapan (PH) claimed it has won the state after taking 29 of the 59 state seats in the 14th general election (GE14). Perak PH chairman Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the pact held the largest plurality of all contesting parties.

Asked if PH had obtained the consent of Perak Ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah to form the state government, Aziz said:

"That you have to ask the PH chairman. I do not know as I am not the Perak PH chairman.”

He said at this juncture, there was no point in entering into speculation yet.

"Let us follow...what transpired has to be based on real events. At the moment, I have not seen anything yet. Let us not make too much speculation on that.”

He also declined to comment if PH needs 30 seats to form the state government.

"I do not know. I am not the authority to talk on behalf of PH. it is pure politics. Less to do with the constitution.”
