LENGGONG, May 7 — Pakatan Harapan and PAS’ intention to write off National Higher Education Fund (PTPTN) loans if they win the 14th general election is not realistic, said PTPTN chairman Datuk Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.

He said if this were to happen, the government’s debt burden would only worsen because PTPTN would have to service RM52.86 billion in loans given to 2.84 million borrowers with financial institutions.

"In this situation, the government might be forced to reduce expenditure in other areas like development, welfare, health and others which will impact the people adversely,” he told reporters while making campaign rounds here yesterday.
