KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 — A son of Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat physically blocked the entrance to the cemetery where the late PAS spiritual advisor is buried upon learning that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad intended to visit.

According to the Malaysiakini news portal, Nik Adli Nik Abdul Aziz, the third of Nik Aziz’s 10 offspring, gathered with several supporters outside the cemetery in Kota Baru today to prevent the former prime minister from entering the site.

Nik Adil, who had been detained under the Internal Security Act during Dr Mahathir’s time, said he will not allow his late father’s former rival to visit the grave.

Former PM Dr Mahathir is now leading the Pakatan Harapan coalition seeking to unseat Barisan Nasional, but which also competes with PAS that is part of neither.

"If he (Dr Mahathir) wants to visit my father’s grave, he can do so after the general election,” Nik Adli was quoted as saying.

"At present, we see there is political interest in him wanting to visit the grave. Come after the election, win or lose,” he added.

According to the same report, Dr Mahathir is scheduled to visit the site along with Nik Aziz’s eldest son, Nik Omar Nik Abdul Aziz, who is contesting as a PKR candidate against PAS in the Chempaka state seat.

Kelantan PH chairman Datuk Husam Musa told Malaysiakini that Dr Mahathir will postpone the visit to avoid causing ill will.
