KUBANG PASU, May 6 — A group of 437 PPBM members resigned from the party and announced their support for Barisan Nasional (BN) here today.

Led by Abdul Manaff Kechik who had proposed the candidacy of PPBM’s Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah for the Kubang Pasu parliamentary seat, the group said they voluntarily left the party to switch allegiances.

"All 437 of us who are Kubang Pasu PPBM members have repented and voluntarily leave PPBM and swear to fully support and work hard to ensure the victory of the BN candidates contesting in Kubang Pasu.

"We are disappointed with Tun Dr Mahathir (Mohamad) whom we see has gone overboard, has a personal agenda and whose vengeance could destroy the Malay unity in general and Muslims specifically,” said Abdul Manaff.

During the ceremony, Abdul Manaff symbolically traded his red PPBM shirt for BN’s blue and handed over his Umno application form to the Kubang Pasu division’s secretary Datuk Samsudin Ahmad.

He then hugged Samsudin after putting on his new shirt.

His actions were followed by 60 other representatives from the various divisions, state seats and branches found in the Kubang Pasu parliamentary constituency.

Later Abdul Manaff told reporters that he will be speaking at ceramahs to reflect his full support of his new party.

When asked if he would like to tear apart his old PPBM shirt, Abdul Manaff said there was "no need for it”.
