IPOH, May 6 — Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming has apologised for the harsh language he uses in ceramahs, three days before polling day on May 9.

His apology comes after a controversial video of him began making its rounds on social media.

In the video, he is seen to have made distasteful remarks about Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Nga’s statement did not directly address the Dr Mahathir video, but was released on the same day that reports of the video began making rounds online.

"I humbly apologise for my tone or language, if it appeared insulting. I will take a softer tone in my coming ceramahs,” Nga said in a statement issued today.

"But I must explain that my speeches have a context related to the issues I have raised. The context and background is crucial to understand my speeches.

"If they are edited, they become fake videos. These are the clips that portray me as an evil person and I hope the public don’t believe them.”

Nga admitted that he tends to use coarse language in Mandarin, but accused Barisan Nasional supporters of spinning the situation.

"Fake clips of my speeches have been edited, cut and pasted to show me saying bad things to hurt the Malay people. This is dangerous slander,” Nga said.

In the recent controversial video, Nga is purportedly shown speaking at a ceramah, urging the crowd to help Dr Mahathir fulfil his wish of toppling the Barisan Nasional government.

According to The Star, he claimed the late Singaporean prime minister Lee Kuan Yew was waiting for Dr Mahathir ‘up there’.

However, Nga allegedly said Dr Mahathir had one more thing to do, and asked the crowd to help him in his ‘last concert’.

Nga believes more videos in the same vein would be released before polling day on May 9, and asked voters not to be swayed by these ‘ill-intentioned’ videos.

The Teluk Intan candidate said this was because BN was worried by the positive reaction PH was getting from Malaysians.

He implored voters to focus on change, and not be fall into ‘BN’s dangerous trap of playing with racial and religious issues’.

"They use any way possible to slander and ruin the image of the opposition.”

"My old videos will also be dredged up. I ask all voters to understand that the time where Dr Mahathir was prime minister is very different from the time where he leads Pakatan Harapan,” Nga said.

Nga is contesting the Teluk Intan seat against Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong.

He is also standing in the Aulong state seat against Barisan Nasional’s Soo Kay Peng.
