TM announces special Wi-Fi packages for Langkawi

LANGKAWI, May 5 — There will be free public Wi-Fi at selected areas in Langkawi until July 1, caretaker prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced yesterday.

He said Telekom Malaysia Berhad, in collaboration with Lembaga Pembangunan Langkawi, will be installing Wi-Fi at Gunung Mat Cincang, Kompleks Jetty Point Kuah, Langkawi International Airport and Pantai Cenang.

He said after July 1, Wi-Fi access will only be at 10 sen per hour.

"There is also a special JASA Unifi package for officers of uniformed bodies and teachers in Langkawi at only RM59 per month for unlimited data, unlimited SMS and unlimited calls,” he said in his speech during a gathering with tourism industry players in Langkawi last night.

Commenting on the special TM Wi-Fi packages in Langkawi, TM Kedah and Perlis general manager Anis Ahmad Mohd Ibrahim said the JASA Pack’s normal price was RM79 per month and the pack also comes with free tethering of 10GB per month.

The Mobile JASA Pack is for officers of uniformed bodies including police, army, the Marine Department and Customs Department.

He said they will also have an e-biz package for entrepreneurs registered as e-entrepreneurs in Langkawi.

"E-entrepreneurs will get the best value package of as low as RM179 per month for 10Mbps for unlimited data, free calls up to RM30 per month and an Instawords promotion with additional RM10 per month,” he said.

He said the Unifi ebiz package with Biz Lite, Biz Advance or Biz Pro plan for e-entrepreneurs included broadband access with speeds of up to 100Mbps and access to wifi@unifi at over 9,400 hotspots nationwide.

Students at institutions of higher learning in Langkawi will also get a special e-edu Lang package with speeds of up to 100Mbps.
