JOHOR BARU, May 4 — A 36-year-old man, who had Pakatan Harapan (PH) flags on his table, suffered burns from a roti canai griddle after being set upon by a group claiming to be Barisan Nasional (BN) supporters at a restaurant in Taman Sri Skudai here yesterday.

The victim, who works as an auxiliary policeman in Singapore, claimed that he suffered burns to his left hand and stomach after he was assaulted by the three men.

Based on his report, a police source said the victim was handed two PH flags by a party supporter which he put on his table while waiting for his takeaway at the restaurant at 11.10am.

"Shortly after that, the victim claimed that a man approached him, kicking up a fuss about the two flags being put on the table.

"The man then claimed he was an ‘orang BN’, before grabbing his shirt collar and also his gold chain in the process,” said the source to Malay Mail, using the Malay term for "BN supporter”.

The source said the victim also claimed two other men assaulted him at the restaurant with a motorcycle helmet, and that he later fell after being pushed.

"The victim, fearing for his life, then fled the restaurant and immediately lodged a report at the Skudai police station,” said the source.

It is learnt that the case is being investigated by the special task force for the 14th general election under the state police contingent headquarters.

Johor Baru North police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Taib Ahmad confirmed that police have received the report from the victim.
