KUALA LUMPUR, May 2 — There will be no toll imposed on motorists who use the Kuala Lumpur-Kuala Selangor (LATAR) expressway during voting hours on May 9.
LATAR managing director Datuk Mohamed Raffe Chekku said the free-toll period from 8am to 5pm on polling day is intended to make it easier for voters to return to their hometowns to cast their votes.
"As a local company that is responsible, we fully support Malaysians who wish to return to vote by offering a speedier and safer journey.
"The LATAR expressway is the gateway not just for small cities in the west coast of peninsular but also major cities such as Selayang, Rawang, Shah Alam, Sungai Buloh and so on,” he was quoted as saying by local paper Sinar Harian.
He said the company expects 100,000 motorists to use the LATAR expressway on polling day, adding that lanes to reload toll cards at each toll plaza along the LATAR expressway will continue to operate 24 hours.
He said the company’s operations team will be monitoring traffic flow.
