ALOR SETAR, May 2 — Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Kota Darul Aman candidate Teh Swee Leong said today he received 12 phone calls and text messages in what appears to be an attempted extortion of RM150 to repair a motorcycle.

In a press conference today, Teh said he was on the campaign trail when the unknown man threatened to send a viral message on social media and attempt to influence others to vote against him.

"He said he is the head of his area and said he will influence people so I won’t win the election. I told him I can’t give him money because I’m a candidate in the election and it is bribery,” said Teh.

DAP’s youngest state candidate lodged a police report earlier today at the Kota Setar Police headquarters.

In another incident, state DAP chief Tan Kok Yew told the press conference that unknown parties put up DAP and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) flags in Kubang Pasu, Pendang, Alor Mengkudu and Kuala Kedah.

PH is using PKR’s symbol and flags in this election.

Tan said he suspected it was an effort to trigger fear of the ethnic Chinese among the Malay-dominant constituencies.

"I first received word from our party members there on Monday afternoon. I’ve since asked them to remove the flags and banners. There were hundreds of them. We don’t know if there are more but we will take them down when we find them.

"Everyone knows the rocket and the hibiscus have been ‘rested’ for this election, so who is responsible for putting these up?” he asked.

Tan, who is also PH’s Derga state seat candidate, said he has not lodged a police report over the incident.

However, he did lodge a police report late last night over a flag-burning incident that occurred yesterday morning.

The burnt flag was discovered by party workers at 7am yesterday in a commercial part of Pekan Simpang Kuala in Alor Setar.
