KUALA SELANGOR, May 2 — According to voters here, things have taken a turn for the better since 2013.

They have seen more street lights and a better waste collection management, especially in village areas.

The voters polled by Malay Mail have attributed such changes to incumbent Barisan Nasional (BN) MP Datuk Seri Irmohizam Ibrahim, who had just completed his first term.

For this election, most said they wish for Umno’s Irmohizam to continue serving as their MP, accusing the PKR-led Selangor state government of turning a blind eye towards the area.

"When the state was under BN, it was so much easier to organise programmes and get help from our respective leaders,” Rahman Sarip, a retired civil servant, said when met at Kampong Ijok.

"But after the Opposition came to power, we felt neglected and this is why we will be voting BN again in the 14th general election,” the 77-year-old added.

But that does not mean the voters are not without their grouses.

Rahman, for example, wishes to see better roads leading to plantations in the estate areas surrounding Ijok.

According to him, most lorries that go in to collect palm oil harvest would get stuck either on the way in or out because of the muddy surface.

"I have informed our leaders about this many times before but nothing has happened, only Irmohizam has promised to look into it,” he said.

For Zulkeflee Ahmad, he would like to see better drainage system in his village at Bukit Bandung.

Each time after a heavy rain, he said, his village would get flooded.

"Apart from that, I don’t have any particular wishes for myself or family. Irmohizam has done some good for us and I hope he will look into this drainage problem soon,” said the 43-year-old wireman.

Sharing the same sentiment as Zulkeflee was Manisah Sariddin, who also said flooding has been an issue for villagers.

"To be honest, none of the leaders, whether from PKR or BN, had visited us in the past.

"Only Irmohizam has seen us several times so I hope this flooding issue can be resolved just like how he has resolved other issues like putting up more lamp posts along some roads here,” said the 58-year-old housewife from Assam Jawa.

Irmohizan won in 2013 by merely 460 votes against Dzulkefly Ahmad, then with PAS.

The two will face off against each other once more, with the latter now with Parti Amanah Negara, joined by PAS’ Mohd Fakaruddin Ismail.

Two state seats under Kuala Selangor — Bukit Melawati and Jeram — were won by BN assemblymen. Only Ijok was won by PKR’s Dr Idris Ahmad.
