PUTRAJAYA, May 1 — The Election Commission (EC) denied messages on dress code gone viral alleging that voters must wear government office attire on polling day for the 14th General Election (GE14).

In a statement today, EC chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah disputed the message, saying the EC would never prevent a voter from entering the polling station as long as he or she did not violate Section 26 (1) (g) of the Election Offences Act 1954.

He explained that the Act provides that a voter is prohibited to enter the polling station if they wear any clothes or carry equipment that displays names of candidates, political party symbols or logos on polling day.

"The EC advises the public to be careful and to verify unauthorised information related to the General Election that are spread through social media.

"People are asked to refer directly to the EC for valid and accurate information by calling 03-88927018,” he said. — Bernama
