YONG PENG, April 30 — MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong insist that Johor DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong should apologise if he is unable to provide any proof that a businessman was funnelling millions of ringgit into Barisan Nasional (BN).

Wee who is also Ayer Hitam incumbent said, instead of making baseless allegations, Liew should report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) if he indeed has proof to back his allegations.

"If he cannot do so then he must apologise publicly for making baseless accusations.

"It is an irresponsible act to make claims without concrete proof,” he said after launching BN’s Ayer Hitam manifesto in Yong Peng today.

Wee and Liew are battling the Ayer Hitam parliamentary seat this election.

On Sunday, Liew had claimed a purported tycoon toured Ayer Hitam, Sembrong and Labis to extend financial support to BN and its campaign here for the general election.

Wee said this was the first time such accusations were made against him during his three terms as elected representative for Ayer Hitam.

"I am not afraid of his statements and would continue to face such statements made by the Opposition,” he said.

The Johor MCA chairman had also claimed that Liew sent "spies” to one of his talks, where they allegedly photographed the tycoon to show at their events.

"If you are a gentleman then display the traits of a gentleman. I do not have the rights to forbid anyone from attending my speeches.

"I neither go to check every single one of those attending on their wealth status and thus such claims are baseless to begin with,” he said.
