IPOH, April 29 — Two Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) candidates accused MCA of lying about sacking them for breaching party rules today, saying they already resigned from the Barisan Nasional party.
Brothers Chin Kwai Heng and Chin Kwai Leong, who are contesting the Tronoh and Menglembu seats, respectively, were upset after MCA disciplinary board chairman Tan Sri Chor Chee Heung listed them as among a dozen members who were sacked by the party.
Demanding an apology for the announcement, they insisted that they left MCA in May 2017 and joined PSM three months later.
Both produced their resignation letters during a press conference at the PSM Menglembu service centre here today.
"My letter was addressed to Perak MCA and it was even rubber-stamped by them. MCA is a big party and their administration should be better than this.
"How do they (still) not know about our resignation nearly a year later?” questioned Kwai Heng.
Chor reportedly announced that 12 MCA members were sacked for contravening the party’s constitution, including seven who were contesting the general election under another ticket.
Kwai Heng and Kwai Leong were among the 12 people named.
Kwai Heng said he joined MCA at the age of 21 and held the position of Taman Bemban branch chairman before quitting on May 16 2017.
His brother, Kwai Leong, was Kampung Baru Bemban branch youth chief until he left on May 19 2017.
Kwai Leong said he left MCA because it failed to help with land issues affecting local farmers.
"When we asked for help, they didn’t even want to see us or help us. Now they are trying to tarnish our name with this,” he said.
"We demand an apology and a withdrawal of the statement. If this doesn’t happen, we will lodge a police report.”
PSM Batu Gajah candidate K. Kunasekaran said the MCA statement could confuse voters who have seen the brothers’ hard work in their respective constituencies.
He stressed that new PSM members must resign from any other political parties before joining, which further controverted the news of their sacking.
"When they served the people here, they did so as PSM members. People are now asking if they were with MCA all this while.
"MCA should have known about their resignation much earlier. This is a baseless accusation and they didn’t have to wait for the Nomination Day to say this.”
