KAMPAR, Apr 29 — A new general hospital will be built here if Barisan Nasional is given the mandate this general election, said Datuk Lee Chee Leong.

Lee, who is contesting the federal seat, said the project was approved by the Health Ministry in 2012, but was stalled after the coalition lost the seat in the 13th general election.

"If I am given the mandate, I will ensure the project is completed within five years,” he said.

Speaking at the unveiling of his manifesto at his operation centre here today, Lee said the new general hospital would complement the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman’s specialist training hospital.

"The people will have a choice of either seeking treatment at a public or private hospital,” he said, adding that the private hospital also offers traditional treatment.

Lee noted that the new general hospital will be situated on 42ha of land donated by Sultan Azlan Shah at Bandar Baru Kampar.

"It will have 120 bed with specialist services,” he said.

"With the new hospital, the people of Kampar need not go to Ipoh to seek treatment,” he added.

Lee also said PLUS Malaysia Berhad (Plus), the concessionaire for North-South Expressway, has agreed to have a new exit along Perak.

"If Barisan wins Kampar, I will ask for the exit to be put here to further stimulate the economy,” he added.

Currently, to get to Kampar, motorists exit at Tapah or Gopeng.

Lee’s running mate for Keranji, Daniel Wa, said the problem of flash floods will be a thing of the past if BN wins.

"Kampar town and the Bandar Baru Kampar area will be flooded each time it rains. If Barisan gets the mandate, I will apply for allocation from the state government to upgrade the drainage system,” he said.

He said flooding has caused much difficulties to motorists and the people as their vehicles and property get destroyed.

"We hope the people of Kampar will support us to allow us to fulfil our manifesto for the people,” he added.

In the May 9 polls, Lee will face PKR Thomas Su Kiong Siong while Wa will face Chong Zhemin of PKR.

Other state constituencies under Kampar are Malim Nawar and Tualang Sekah which will be contested by Chang Gwo Chyang and Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi respectively.
