SUNGAI SIPUT, April 28 — As expected a four-cornered contest is set to take place for the Sungai Siput parliamentary seat in GE14, as four candidates filed their papers at the nomination centre in Kuala Kangsar Municipal Hall here today.
The multi-cornered fight involves Barisan Nasional (BN), Pakatan Harapan (PH), PAS, and PSM.
They are MIC deputy president Datuk Seri SK Devamany, two-term Hutan Melintang assemblyman S. Kesavan (PKR), Dr Ishak Ibrahim (PAS), and incumbent Dr D. Micheal Jeyakumar (PSM).
Returning officer Mohamad Soffie Borham announced their names at 12.30pm after the close of nomination at 10am.
Meanwhile, two state seats under the constituency — Lintang and Jalong — will see a multi-cornered fight and a straight fight respectively.
Incumbent assemblyman Mohd Zolkaply Harun from Umno (BN), Isran Fahmi Ismail (PAS) and Madhi Hasan from PKR (PH) will contest for the Lintang state seat.
Whilst, the Jalong state seat will be contested by Gerakan Wanita chief Datuk Tan Lian Hoe (BN), and incumbent assemblyman Loh Sze Yee from DAP (PH).
The nomination sets in motion the campaign for the general election that will go on until midnight on May 8 and polling will take place the next day.
Earlier, the usually quiet town of Sungai Siput was flooded with supporters dressed in blue, green and white marching to the nomination centre.
They gathered at their respective division offices and along the streets near the nomination centre starting around 7.30am to show their support to the candidates.
