SHAH ALAM, APRIL 28 — It’s going to be a three-cornered fight for the Shah Alam parliamentary seat and the Batu Tiga and Kota Anggerik state seats within the constituency.
Barisan Nasional (BN), PAS and PKR will be locking horns for the three seats.
At 10am sharp, Election Commission (EC) returning officer Datuk Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad announced that nominations had closed, and that the final list of candidates would be announced later.
At 10.50am, he returned with the candidates and confirmed that all their nomination applications fulfilled the requirements and were all accepted.
Amanah incumbent, Khalid Samad, who is contesting under the PKR logo, will be fighting BN’s Datuk Azhari Shaari and PAS’ Mohd Zuhdi Marzukhi for the parliamentary seat.
Jumaeyah Masdi (BN) Mohd Najwan Halimi (PKR) and Ahmad Dusuki Abd Rani (PAS) will be contesting the Kota Anggerik state seat, while Datuk Ahmad Muadzam Shah Yaakop (BN), Rodziah Ismail (PKR) and Abdul Halim Omar (PAS) are set to contest the Batu Tiga state seat.
Outside the Dewan Besar Tanjung MBSA nomination centre in Section 19 here, supporters from BN and Pakatan Harapan (PH) engaged in a battle-cry competition of sorts, screaming "Reformasi” and "Barisan Nasional” along with the names of their candidates.
In the last national polls, Khalid won the Shah Alam seat for PAS, by 10,939 votes.
Rodziah, the Batu Tiga incumbent assemblyman, won the state seat in the 12th general election by a 3,563-vote majority, and again in the 13th general election, by a 3,805-vote majority.
The Kota Anggerik state seat was previously won by Yaakob Sapari for PKR, with a 4,503-vote majority.
