KUALA LUMPUR, April 27 — As we approach nomination day tomorrow for the 14th general election, the Election Commission (EC) have sent out a reminder to all to remain civil and not cause any untoward incidents.

EC Chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah through a statement, urged everyone to adhere to instructions and rules set by the EC, police force, and local authorities.

He reminded the public of several things that were illegal under Section 24A of the Election Offences Act 1954, which would be enforced on nomination day.

"Please be reminded that it is illegal to supply, distribute, or use any hailers or loud speakers on a vehicle or vessel to disseminate political agendas,” the statement read.

Mohd Hashim detailed the process on nomination day, stating candidates have to present their complete nomination letters between 9 to 10am to the EC managing officer.

"The letters can be handed over by the candidate, the nominator or the seconder individually, or together as a trio.

"The EC would like to remind candidates looking to pay the RM5,000 deposit for state seats and RM10,000 for parliamentary seats that they can do so through cash or a bank draft,” he said through the statement.

He said the payments can be done a day before nomination day,  but the receipts are required as proof of transaction.

Mohd Hashim also reminded candidates looking to contest under party flags registered with the EC to make sure they bring along a permission letter from the relevant party official of authority.

"The EC is looking forward towards a smooth nomination and campaigning period without any untoward incidents that will affect public order or national security,” the statement read.
