LUMUT, April 25 — A retired navy officer will be fielded as Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) candidate in Pangkor this general election.
Commander (R) Nordin Ahmad Ismail from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) will face caretaker mentri besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir.
Nordin was announced as the candidate during a ceramah attended by PPBM chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in Teluk Muroh here today.
Speaking to the media, Nordin said he was ready to take on Zambry.
"My former navy colleagues have told me that they will support me at the ballot box,” said the 52-year-old Lumut PPBM division chairman.
He then quipped: "If I make it, I will be a giant killer.”
Nordin, who joined PPBM in October 2016, said he chose the party as Dr Mahathir was his icon.
"When I served in Sudan, all the foreigners I met there knew who Dr Mahathir was,” he said.
The father of eight girls said if he wins the people’s mandate, he would fight for the welfare of veterans.
"Nobody cares about the veterans. We even had to fork out our own money to rent the building for veterans’ activities in Lumut,” said the 27-year navy veteran who took optional retirement in 2011.
