KUALA LUMPUR, April 25 — Tan Sri M. Kayveas said he has resigned as the president of Barisan Nasional component MyPPP.
Kayveas revealed this on Twitter today, amid speculation that he might withdraw the party from the coalition after failing to get the seats it wanted to contest in the general election.
"Effective 23 April 2018, I have stepped down as the president of myPPP. Chairman of WP. Advisor to the state of Perak,” Kayveas wrote today.
His announcement came moments before a MyPPP press conference in which secretary-general Datuk Mohan Kandasamy announced that the party was expelling Kayveas.
Mohan said the party unanimously decided to do so after it received a letter from BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor.
Kayveas immediately criticised the party for the decision.
"A bunch of cowards even want my membership. Such fear. If they wanted that too, I would have given them.
"Need not embarrass themselves and stoop so low. Clearly none of them love the party,” he said.
Kayveas had antagonised BN with his demand for MyPPP to be given more seats to contest, including some that were traditionally contested by other components.
This was most apparent in Cameron Highlands, where he claimed BN would lose if MIC is fielded instead of his party.
He had suggested then that he could withdraw MyPPP from BN if his party is not allowed to contest the Pahang seat.
