PETALING JAYA, April 24 — Police rescued a disabled woman who was found starving and living among refuse and human excrement in the kitchen of a house in Kelantan.

Malay daily Sinar Harian reported that the victim, who had been kept at the house in Taman Sri Setia in Kampung Panchor, Padang Tembak Pengkalan Chepa was first spotted by a neighbour at 9pm last night.

The 48-year-old neighbour was walking past an open window of the house when he spotted the woman lying on the floor.

"The stench was terrible and at first, I thought she was dead, but after calling out, she began to make sounds as though she was groaning in pain.

"I gathered other neighbours and we called the police,” he said.

A check at the site revealed the victim had been kept among piles of empty food and drink containers, while the floor was covered in faeces and urine.

Upon arriving, police were forced to break down the kitchen door to gain entry.

About an hour later, a 40-year-old woman, believed to be the victim’s younger sister, returned home and was detained by police for further investigations.

The victim was sent to Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital for treatment.
