KUALA LUMPUR, April 23 — Wanita PKR chief Zuraida Kamaruddin has denied that her meeting with Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail yesterday was to discuss the selection of Selangor’s PKR candidates for GE14.
She clarified today that the meeting with the PKR president was actually centred around unverified "candidate lists” being circulated by unknown parties.
"I refer to reports that have been circulated, that suggest I was there to strike a deal over the choice of candidates in Selangor.
"This is incorrect,” Zuraida said in a statement.
"I attended the meeting due to concerns over 'candidate lists' that were floating around which had not gone through the structured process laid down by the party.
"This had caused anxiety and uncertainty among party grassroots,” the incumbent Ampang MP added.
Reports had emerged on Sunday of the said meeting between the two leaders, but no clarification was given then about the details of the discussion.
These claims were fueled further after PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali met up with de facto party leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the University Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre this morning.
Party officials have remained tight-lipped with regards to the topics discussed during Azmin and Anwar’s meeting today.
Zuraida added that Sunday’s meeting was attended by leaders not only from Selangor, adding that Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian and Mohd Nur Manuty from Perak were also present.
"I am surprised by the speculation and shoddy information published about that meeting.
"The discussion was amicable and constructive,” she said.
