KUALA LUMPUR, April 23 — PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali is meeting de facto party leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim now, amid a rift over election candidates who have reportedly been rejected by president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

The party source who wished to not be named said Azmin is visiting Anwar at the University Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre. The former arrived at around 10.30am, and was still talking with Anwar at 12.30pm.

"He arrived here around 10.30am, and is still in discussions. The meeting is taking place in the hospital itself.

"It would go on until they are done sorting out the topic of discussion,” the source said.

The source however declined to elaborate the nature of discussions being held, and the reason Anwar is currently admitted to the hospital.

It is understood the meeting between Azmin and Anwar this afternoon had concluded around 1.30pm.

This follows a meeting between PKR Women wing’s chief Zuraidah Kamaruddin and Dr Wan Azizah which took place on Sunday.

The reported rift within the party supposedly stemmed after up to eight names nominated by Azmin to contest in Selangor were dropped by Dr Wan Azizah.

Reports then emerged claiming there were two existing power centres within the Opposition, one led by Dr Wan Azizah and another by Azmin.

PKR vice president and Batu incumbent MP Tian Chua had claimed on Sunday there were "forces” within the party who were aligned to lobbying only for specific and like-minded candidates.

Another issue apparently facing the Opposition is their Prime Ministerial candidate Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who has decided to run under the PKR banner this coming elections.

This has reportedly caused tensions within PKR, with some had disagreeing with Dr Mahathir use of the banner, as it was set up by Anwar in 1999 after he was sacked and ousted by Dr Mahathir himself.
