GEORGE TOWN, April 21 — Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow last night announced two new faces in the Air Itam and Seri Delima constituencies under the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary constituency.
"We have other plans for Rayer so he will not be defending the Seri Delima seat and we will announce which seat he will be contesting [this morning],” he said.
"The new faces the party picked are experienced as councillors so they are not entirely new and I believe that they will be able to take on these new roles to serve the people,” he added.
He then named Penang Island City councillors Joseph Ng Soon Seong and Syerleena Abdul Rashid as candidates for Air Itam and Seri Delima respectively.
The incumbent Air Itam assemblyman Wong Hon Wai was shifted to defend the Bukit Bendera parliamentary seat.
The other two seats, the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary seat and the Paya Terubong state seat, will be defended by the incumbents Ramkarpal Singh and Yeoh Soon Hin respectively.
Chow said the party will be announcing all of its candidates for the seven parliamentary and 19 state seats it is contesting in Penang this morning.
"I have not announced where I will be contesting too... we will know [today], we will be announcing all candidates [this morning] at 10am,” he said.
DAP has defended all of its seats in Penang for two terms since 2008 while under Pakatan Rakyat and will be defending all seats this election under Pakatan Harapan (PH).
This time, DAP candidates will be joining its PH partners to contest under PKR’s logo.
It is the first time in the party’s history that it is not using its iconic rocket logo.
