MELAKA, April 21 — The announcement on the Melaka Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates in the 14th General Election (GE14) is expected to be made on Monday in Seri Bendahara, Ayer Keroh here.

Melaka BN chairman Datuk Seri Idris Haron said the list of candidates for the state was ready and the announcement was expected to be made at about 10 am on April 23.

"We’ll wait for the names of the candidates to be announced and probably new faces will be listed as GE14 candidates,” he told reporters after launching the Melaka Gempur Brigade at the Hang Jebat Stadium here today.

The event was also attended by Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, who is also BN Youth chief.

Commenting on new faces as BN candidates in the state, Idris said there could be at least six candidates because BN expected 30 to 40 per cent of new faces would be chosen as elected representatives in GE14. 

He said the lists of candidates had been received and it was made after various aspects were taken into consideration.

Melaka has 28 state seats and six Parliamentary seats.

In the 13th general election, the BN formed the state government, having won 21 state seats while DAP grabbed six seats and PAS one seat. — Bernama
