KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 — Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah proclaimed today that he is above partisan politics and will remain impartial at the state or federal level.

The Selangor ruler added that the palace must not be dragged into politics in the course of the 14th general election.

"I would like to stress that I will always remain neutral and will not be involved with any of the country’s political parties,” he said in a statement.

"I am not in any way involved with any political contest nor shall I meddle in political affairs be it at the state or federal level.

"I would also like to stress that as a Ruler I am above partisan politics and must not be seen endorsing any political parties,” he added.

The sultan said he has absolute faith in the people to choose their own leaders.

He also cautioned Selangor voters against causing trouble and division during the election campaign.

"I hope the 14th general election will take place smoothly and peacefully,” he said.

Nomination will take place next Saturday and polling on May 9.
