SEBERANG PERAI, April 15 — Barisan Nasional (BN) is confident that Umno will retain all of its 10 state and three parliamentary seats in Penang, Teng Chang Yeow said today.

The Penang BN chairman said the incumbents have been serving the people all these years and will remain strong in those seats.

"Penang Umno is confident that they will be able defend all of their seats,” he said during a press conference after the launch of the Penang BN manifesto at The Light here.

Teng said BN aimed to win all the 40 state and 13 parliamentary seats it is contesting in Penang this election.

He said they have to enter elections with the mentality of winning all of the seats so he declined to give an exact number of additional seats that the coalition hoped to win this time around.

BN only defended 11 state and three parliamentary seats back in 2008 and lost an additional state seat in 2013.

BN components, Gerakan, MCA and MIC, have not been able to win any seats since 2008.

BN will need to win at least 21 state seats for a simple majority to form the state government.

In 2013, DAP won 19 state seats, PKR 10 and PAS one.

Malaysians will go to the polls on May 9 while campaigning will start after nomination day on April 28.
