KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 — Two Malaysian women who flew in to Jakarta, Indonesia thought they could get away with stuffing 2.7kg of crystal methamphetamine in their panties and sanitary napkins.

However, they were caught by Customs officials as soon as they landed at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on March 24 from Kuala Lumpur, though the incident only came to light today.

"White powder was found in their sanitary napkins and underwear,” the Jakarta airport’s customs and excise chief Erwin Situmorang was quoted saying in a report by The Jakara Post.

The two women were identified as SH, 35, and EF, 34.

Further investigations led to the arrest of another Malaysian woman, identified as GR, 31, when she went to a pre-arranged meeting spot the following day to collect the delivery of the drugs.

According to the report, GR claimed that a Malaysian resident was the mastermind behind the smuggling attempt.

On March 26, a joint customs and police team arrested an Indonesian national KJ, 32, who was tasked to collect the delivery from GR.

The arrest lead authorities to KJ’s house in Bogor, West Java where 171.64 grams of meth and two ecstasy pills were found.

The next day saw the joint authorities arresting another four suspects — three buyers and an acquaintance of one of the earlier suspects.

Previously on March 4, a similar attempt to smuggle 662 grams of meth hidden in sanitary napkins on a KLM flight from Kuala Lumpur involving two Indonesians was also foiled.
