KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 — Thai authorities have named the Malaysian behind the attempt to smuggle nearly a tonne worth of syabu into the country last week as the notorious local drug kingpin called 'AJ', Kosmo reported today.
The revelation was made by the country's Anti-Narcotic Bureau (NSB) chief Sommai Kongvisaisuk in a press conference in Bangkok yesterday.
Two Malaysians were arrested at the Thai-Malaysian border on March 28 for attempting to smuggle up to 700kg worth of syabu.
Thai police said the suspects, aged 35 and 49, had tried to conceal the drugs in pineapples and watermelons.
The drugs have an estimated street value of RM64 million. The NSB said the March 28 bust was among the largest to date.
