Hannah Yeoh moves from Subang Jaya to Segambut

PETALING JAYA, April 9 — The DAP will field incumbent Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh in the Segambut parliament seat in the election.

According to DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng’s announcement of the party’s candidates for Kuala Lumpur federal seats in the 14th general election, incumbent Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng will run in Kepong instead, replacing incumbent Tan Seng Giaw.

The other federal seats of Cheras, Seputeh and Bukit Bintang will be contested by their incumbents Tan Kok Wai, Teresa Kok and Fong Kui Lun respectively.

DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang had previously indicated that Yeoh, who was also the Selangor legislative assembly Speaker, would run for her first parliament seat in Segambut after holding office in Subang Jaya for two terms since 2008.

Yeoh said she looked forward to tackle new challenges as an MP candidate.

"I am honoured by the party decision and will do best to see what I can do for Segambut,’’ she said.

Hannah added that she will not be defending her Subang Jaya state seat, but assured it would be contested by DAP in GE14.

Party veteran Tan, who was not present at today’s event, was dropped from the Kuala Lumpur line-up.

Tan, who held Kepong for eight terms since 1982, previously said he would defend the seat, but ultimately left the decision to the party leadership.

Tan was rumoured to have fallen out of favour with the party leadership because of his criticism of the Penang government in managing environmental issues.

He also said in 2016 as Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee vice-chairman that caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak should not be held accountable over state investment firm 1Malaysia Development Berhad’s (1MDB) dealings.
