SHAH ALAM, April 8 — Barisan Nasional (BN) pledged today more affordable housing and greater investment into Selangor state education in its bid to recapture Malaysia’s most developed state.

Selangor BN chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar outlined a five-point election manifesto for the 14th general election, which were to deliver a stable and high-performance state administration, ensure public safety, improve infrastructure, bring economic prosperity, and create conditions for inter-community unity.

"This is our pledge, this is what we can do for the people. BN will make Selangor great but it is up to the voters to use their power to put us into a position where we can help them,” he said at the launch of Selangor BN’s election manifesto.

Selangor BN’s manifesto included 100 key projects, including more affordable housing, the rehabilitation of stalled housing development projects, greater investment into the state’s education assets including Universiti Selangor (Unisel), and a waste-to-wealth scheme to encourage better waste management.

Noh, who held the portfolio of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister before yesterday’s parliamentary dissolution, said he would turn around the problems Selangor faced.

"Our manifesto is clear and addresses the problems faced by the people. We know how they have suffered under the opposition since 2008,” he said.

A PKR-DAP-PAS alliance, later formalised as Pakatan Rakyat, won Selangor in the 2008 general election and retained it in Election 2013, but Pakatan Harapan comprising PKR, DAP, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, and Parti Amanah Negara is expected to run in the 14th general election against PAS and BN.

Also present at the launch of Selangor BN’s manifesto were MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam and incumbent senator Maglin Dennis D’cruz, accompanied by Selangor BN division heads.

Noh did not reveal what BN’s strategy would be to recapture the state, but claimed that Selangor had been severely mismanaged under the PKR-DAP-PAS government and its people were hungry for change.

In launching the BN manifesto for the state, Noh said basic services such as waste management, reliable water supply and health had suffered under the administration of Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.

"Selangor has become ‘Darul Sampah’ under the leadership of Azmin Ali.

"Since 2008 the state has become a ‘champion’- champion of rubbish, champion of water shortages, champion of dengue,” said the Selangor BN chairman.

Noh also said the state government had allowed people housing projects to fall into a state of disrepair as well as facilities such as the Shah Alam stadium.

"Not only that, but organisations such as the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) have lost their way under the Opposition.

"This is not what the people of Selangor want. They want a clean and efficient state government, they want a better Selangor and that is what BN can deliver to the people,” he said.
