KUALA LUMPUR, March 25 — The federal government has allocated RM15 million for the refurbishment of the police training centre (Pulapol) in the capital city, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today.

Najib who is also finance minister said the additional fund was to show appreciation to the police who have contributed much to ensure national security.

"Today, I’d like to make announcements as a gift because I don’t want you to go home empty-handed.

"First, I’d like to announce an allocation of RM15 million for repair works to the KL Pulapol quarters. Use this allocation to repair your lifts or any other damages in the area,” he said at the 211th National Police Day celebration here.

Also present for the celebrations were Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Ali Hamsa, Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed and Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Alwi Ibrahim.

Najib also commended police and its 130,401 personnel for their service to prevent crime, which he said is among his administration’s main priorities.

"I am very proud to announce that no Malaysians have been killed on our soil as a result of an attack by the Islamic State during the closing of an anti-terrorism conference with regional state leaders in Australia recently.

"This is due to the important and effective role played by the police which I hope will last in the future,” he said.

He also paid tribute to police officers killed during the Lahad Datu insurgency and the Malayan Emergency.

According to Najib, a total of 483 police officers lost their lives in the line of duty from 1994 to date.

Najib said he regretted the baseless allegations made by the Opposition, including a "93-year-old” former national leader against the police, which he said skewed public perception.

The prime minister said among the false allegations were the police were the government’s tool and were responsible for the increasing crime rate.

He also panned the "beloved” son of the former leader whom he claimed had issued a statement promising to terminate the jobs of all senior civil servants after the polls if their political alliance took federal power.

Najib also reminded the police to continuously strive to uphold professionalism and integrity in the force.

"The trust factor between the police and the people has to be constantly improved so the psychological fear of crime can be reduced further.

"Our National Transformation 50 plan is a 30 years long foundation that we will work together towards a guaranteed future that we have dreamed all these while,” he said.
