SEREMBAN, March 8 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today urged the rakyat (people) to work with the government to eradicate negative elements that are insidiously destroying the country.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also home minister, said such commitment and passion by all parties would enable Malaysia to realise its Vision 2020’s aspiration.

"My wish and that of my ministry is none other than to establish a country that is free from all threats.

"So that all of us without exception can live in peace and harmony,” he said.

The text of his speech was read out by Minister in Prime Minister Department Datuk Paul Low Seng Kuan at the ‘United Against Crime, Violence and Drugs’ campaign, organised by the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) here tonight.

Also present were Sultanah Pahang Sultanah Kalsom Abdullah, MCPF Vice Chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye and MCPF Special Projects Executive Committee member Datuk Seri Johnny Ch’ng Ewe Gee.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also MCPF president, said tonight’s programme was beneficial as it acted as a good platform to deliver the government’s wishes for the rakyat.

He also congratulated the organiser of this programme, for making an effort to help the government in establishing a healthy and safe community.

"This programme is very meaningful and should be applauded as attendees were exposed to key message of the ministry through the security exhibition that is being held.

"Young people are the heirs of the nation, therefore their mind needs to be filled with accurate information regarding domestic security issues,” he said.

Meanwhile, in conjunction with tonight’s programme, Sultanah Kalsom has launched membership of the exclusive SAS International Royal Club. — Bernama
