KUALA NERUS, March 3 — Datuk Seri Najib Razak attends the wedding reception of 111 couples in the New Terengganu Transformation (TTB) Prime Wedding (mass marriage solemnisation) ceremony held at the Gong Badak Indoor Stadium here today.
The wedding reception was held in conjunction with the closing ceremony of the Terengganu Expo 2018 held at the compound of Gong Badak Sports Complex, here, from Feb 25 until tomorrow.
The Prime Minister was welcomed upon arrival at 12.30pm by Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman and his wife Toh Puan Seri Halina Zakaria.
Najib also performed the ‘tepung tawar’ ritual on one of the newlywed couples — athletes, Terengganu weightlifter Azmer Abdul Rahman, 26, and his bride Norasyikin Nabila Rahimi, 18, who is also involved in weightlifting.
Azmer, won silver medal at the 130 kilogramme (kg) weightlifting event during the Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2012 in Pahang, while his new bride Norasyikin Nabila will represent Terengganu at Sukma 2018 to be held in Perak in September.
Najib also presented a copy of the marriage card, SSP-BSN certificate and a certificate of participation to the couples.
The Prime Minister then departed for the Sultan Mahmud Airport at 1.05pm en route to Kedah.
As of last year, 542 couples were married in the mass marriage solemnisation programme, namely 217 couples in 2016 and 271 in 2017. — Bernama
