Deputy minister says National Service programme will remain relevant

KUALA NERANG, March 3 — The National Service Training Programme (PLKN) will continue to remain relevant to foster the spirit of unity, tolerance and patriotism among the young, says Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Baharum.

He said PLKN, which was introduced in 2004, had a positive effect on the government’s efforts to instill a love for the nation.

"Mutual respect and trust are very important in this multiracial and multireligious country. PLKN will always remain relevant with the improved modules which is progressing well with no social and safety problems,” he said at the closing ceremony of the PLKN 2.0 Group 1 Series 15/2018 at Dusun Resort PLKN Camp here today.

Meanwhile, National Service Training Department director-general Datuk Mohmed Asri Yusof said 11,776 trainees had participated in the training nationwide since Jan 6.

Three more intake sessions will be made this year namely, from March 17 to May 13, July 14 to September 9 and September 22 to Nov 18. — Bernama
