GEORGE TOWN, March 2 — Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng maintained today his assertion that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) practised double standards in investigating certain cases.
He was responding to MACC chief Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad who yesterday told Lim and Selangor Mentri Besar to be careful not to make criminally defamatory statements involving the commission as action could be taken against them.
"I stand by what I said, before this MACC said they will take action against me and I am still waiting,” Lim who is Air Putih assemblyman and Bagan MP said at a news conference here.
The DAP secretary-general then accused MACC of politicising the issue.
"I know they will take action if I talk like this, I will wait for them,” he added, reiterating that there were double standards in the way MACC investigated cases.
Lim again demanded MACC explain why no action had been taken following allegations an Umno MP had received RM3 million from the undersea tunnel contractor, Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd, while another businessman who allegedly received RM19 million was arrested.
He also insisted there were fake news featured on the front pages of "Barisan Nasional media” claiming the Penang government leaders had received millions of kickbacks and that the MACC had not acted against such reports.
"These reports were obviously fake news and the state government was made a scapegoat in this,” Lim claimed.
