KUANTAN, March 2 — A state government employee lost RM13,000 after being deceived by a false call he received, on Wednesday evening.

Pahang Commercial Criminal Investigation Department chief Supt Wazir Mohd Yusof said the victim, 48, had previously received a phone call from a woman introducing herself as Siti Hajar binti Muhamad, assistant director of the GST Division.

He said the suspect claimed that the victim did not pay GST amounting to RM16,072.38 for 103 units of Samsung mobile phones which had been seized by the Bukit Kayu Hitam Customs, Perlis on April 27 last year.

"The complainant initially denied it, but the suspect claimed that the complainant’s personal data could have been misused and asked the victim to lodge a police report.

"The victim’s call was than connected to the Kedah police contingent headquarters and the complainant spoke with a man who introduced himself as a sergeant before claiming that the victim had abetted with a criminal named ‘Roslan’ for trafficking syabu and smuggling drugs,” he told the media here yesterday.

Subsequently, the sergeant requested the complainant to speak with three other superior officers before instructing him to deposit a sum into his account to get a guarantor in court.

Wazir said following that, the victim went to a bank in Pekan and put RM13,000 into the suspect’s account.

The victim then tried to contact the suspect, but failed before realising he had been duped by a Macau Scam syndicate and lodged a police report yesterday. — Bernama
