IPOH, March 2 — In a turn of events, police have arrested the victim of an alleged armed robbery incident involving two suspects on Wednesday afternoon.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Ali Tamby said the statements recorded from the victim, who claimed he was robbed off RM 33,000, were conflicting and police had obtained a remand order against the 25-year-old until March 8.
"The victim was arrested due to doubtful statements by him,” said Mohd Ali in a Whatsapp message today.
It is also understood the victim was arrested at his hospital bed, where he was admitted, on Thursday at 7.30pm.
On Wednesday, the victim told police he was robbed at a car park area in front of a bank at Greentown and he had suffered a slash wound to his abdomen during the robbery.
The victim, who works at a vehicle spare parts supplying company said he had wanted to deposit money at a bank when he was waylaid by two suspects on a motorcycle at the parking area at about 3pm.
The victim had told police that one of the suspects pointed a knife at his abdomen and demanded he handover all his valuables.
The victim then handed over RM33,000 of the company’s money that he was supposed to bank in. He also gave them RM150 of his own money and a gold ring.
The case is being investigated under Section 394 of Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt while committing a robbery that carries a maximum 20 years jail and liable to fine or whipping.
