Cops nab 10 Thai nationals over sale of Ketum leaves, juice

SHAH ALAM, March 2 — The police nabbed 10 Thai restaurant workers at an apartment in Section 17 here yesterday, on suspicion of selling ketum water and leaves.

Shah Alam police chief ACP Baharudin Mat Taib said the nine men and a woman, aged between 17 and 51, were detained at 3.30pm.

"This raid was carried out after we received reports from the public that the Thai group had been selling ketum leaves and water in the district.

"We also seized 42kg of ketum leaves, 82 bottles of cough medicine, 35 packets of ready-to-process ketum water and RM5,908,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

He said initial investigations revealed the group was supplied with ketum which was in turn, stored at the rented apartment.

Baharudin said the suspects were remanded for two weeks. — Bernama
